Sediment management

SINTEF Energy Research are conducting research and development in topics related to hydropower and regulated rivers, including environmental impacts, hydro-morphology, hydrology, hydraulics, mitigation measures and sediment management. Most of our current work related to sediment management are organised within the HydroCen research centre focusing on:  Find new solutions for sediment management  Develop turbine designs that manage sediment wear  Investigate sediment measurements and environmental impacts In addition, sediment management and geomorphologic processes are crucial for understanding impacts of dams and hydropower on habitats and the environment. We have an extensive portfolio of research projects investigating environmental impacts and mitigation measures in hydropower rivers. Appropriate sediment management is also necessary to maintain ecosystem and habitat quality in regulated rivers, and it must be included in mitigation measures for hydropower and in river restoration projects.
